Tips to Prevent Car Crash Injuries
Here are some tips you can implement to reduce car crashes and prevent hefty medical bills from injuries related to a car crash.
Wear a seat belt. All too often injuries occur from the driver or passenger not wearing a seat belt and being ejected from the vehicle. This could be a deadly mistake. Take a second to put on your seat belt even if you think it is uncomfortable.
Pull into traffic with caution. Stop, look, and listen are good rules of thumb for walking across the street as well as driving. Be aware of your car’s blind spot. Always look both directions at least twice before proceeding.
Watch for someone running a red light. Even after the light turns green, look both ways to make sure no one is trying to speed through a yellow light.
Watch for pedestrians; especially children. Children, as well as animals, often pop out from behind parked cars. When driving in a residential neighborhood be on the lookout and watch carefully.
Continually scan the road ahead. Always concentrate on the next 10 to 12 seconds ahead of your moving vehicle. In addition, have an escape route in case an emergency should arise.
Do not follow too closely. A good following distance is three seconds between you and the car in front of you. As tempting as it may be to speed to make up time, tailgating is a major cause of car accidents.
Be a courteous driver. Treat others with respect and drive courteously. We are all just trying to get to our destination in a timely manner. Also, report any suspicious driving behavior to authorities so everyone is safe.
